Tampere parkrun #41

Yet again it was such a great morning for Tampere parkrun. Sun was shining and we saw how Pirkan soutu - a local rowing race started across the lake. This week 52 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 22 were first timers and 2 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 11 different clubs took part.

We had lovely visitors from New Zealand, Australia and U.K. Thank you all for coming and joining our parkrun!

Thank you for all our big and small volunteers. Especially thanks to Elisa from Jyväskylä for volunteering our parkrun. We hope that parkrun starts there soon and we will be happy to help with anything to get you started.

Tampere parkrun #40!

Last week it was the IAAF u20 world championship games and this week it was the Tammerfest that had blocked us from using the normal parkrun route. We had to use alternative route. Once again we got lucky with the weather and the forecasted thunderstorm did not appear. Lucky for us, as this allowed us to enjoy more of the beautiful scenery of Hatanpää park and arboretum.

We also had to use alternative place for after event coffee and went to Linkosuo cafe. This might have been an unfortunate choice of venue, as they had very delicious pastries and any calories that might have been burned with parkrun was more than compensated. After event coffee we also heard news about a new parkrun event opening in Asikkala near the city of Lahti. This is what the parkrun is all about, good people running, walking or volunteering and having interesting conversations while enjoying good coffee (and pastries).

Thank you for Caroline (in the picture) and Hugh Manning for visiting our parkrun from Haga, Sweden!

Another sunny parkrun

It was another sunny and this time a hot Saturday for Tampere's 39th parkrun. Even with the unusual heat and the starting line in a slightly different spot (due to the IAAF World 20 Championships), we had 50 people find us and complete the run/walk. This Saturday the route record was made and two parkrunners even got personal bests this week! There was no shortage of first timers this time either: 22 of you ran or walked with us this week for the first time. We hope you enjoyed it and we hope to see you soon again.

There was no shortage of visitors this week. Some of the places people visited from were the UK, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden and Australia.

Two of our volunteers, Leena Heino and Johanna Riippi, have earned the first parkrun shirts for Tampere with 25 times volunteering. Way to go ladies!

It looks like it's going to be another hot day this Saturday, and possibly a bit wet too. We hope to see you there!

On 21.7.2018 the starting point will be closed (Tammerfest) and we use an alternative route: https://www.strava.com/routes/13646204. So we start 14.5. and 21.7.2018 after the Ratina bridge (with the outdoor gym). The toilettes and showers are in use on 21.7.18.

Sunny parkrun

Sun was shining when 62 parkrunners started their 5 k jorney. Out of those 62, 18 were first timers and 18 parkrunners recorded their personal best. Great job! We also had Myra, Sean and Francesca from the U.K. visiting our parkrun. We hope you enjoyed and we hope to see you soon again.

Tampere parkrun started on 14th October 2017. Since then 549 participants have completed 1,801 parkruns covering a total distance of 9,005 km, including 376 new Personal Bests. WOW!

Mikki the parkrun dog was very happy to participate with Petri.

Tuire and Janne-Matti have participated to parkrun together 23 times. Great job!

INFO : The Ratina Stadium will be closed due the IAAF World 20 Championships on 14.5.2018 so no showers and toilettes available then. We are sorry about that. You can use the toilettes in the Ratina shopping centre near the starting point.

On 14.5. and 21.7.2018 the starting point will be closed (championships and Tammerfest) and we use an alternative route: https://www.strava.com/routes/13646204. So we start 14.5. and 21.7.2018 after the Ratina bridge (with the outdoor gym).

Summer Holiday special

Start of the holiday season in Finland seemed do the trick as we got an overwhelming number of First Timers. Out of 68 participants 28 were there to try the course for the first time. What a great way to start the holidays!

Our regular guest from Turku, Lorna, was there as were also whole family from Jokela. It was great to have you as guests.

One of the local first timers Pasi was also the first at the finish line running with a baby stroller. Time was also admirable 18:10. Atleast a Tampere parkrun record running with 2 children :) Congratulations!

Pasi Huhtala finishing.

Our junior parkrunners did impressive runs too as both Tapio and Vilma recorded PB's. Nice work!

Vilma

Tampere parkrun is also very fortunate as we already have a good volunteering group helping out. But it doesn't mean that help is needed or appreciated. Especially during the holidays new friendly faces are definitely needed. Please, ping us through facebook or email if you can help out now and again!

Marshal of the day.

Next week will be interesting as the Sauna restaurant Kuuma opened finally for visitors. Unfortunately swimming is not yet possible but Tampere parkrun definitely recommends trying the Sauna out!

Saunaravintola Kuuma

We did finish the parkrun as usual in the cosy Sanna's Cafe.

Oh yes. One more thing. First Volunteer 25 t-shirt has arrived and more are likely to come soon. If you would like to get one of these you know how to get it :)

Thank You to everyone being part of this great event!
